Jose Mourinho tells talkSPORT: Diego Costa fitness a big concern for Chelsea

first_imgChelsea manager Jose Mourinho has admitted to talkSPORT that Diego Costa is a concern heading into the new Premier League season. The Spanish striker made a big impression for the Blues last season after his arrival from Atletico Madrid but was regularly hampered by hamstring trouble.Mourinho had hoped that a complete rest over the summer would solve the 26-year-old’s issues, but that hasn’t been the case, with Costa limping out of Chelsea’s final pre-season game against Barcelona. He is now a doubt for the Premier League opener against Swansea this weekend, and the Special One admits club medics are struggling to get to the root of the problem.Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, he said: “I have to be honest and say that it is a bit of a concern.“A player that didn’t finish the season and doesn’t start the season obviously doesn’t make make me happy.“The boy is trying hard but he has a problem against Barcelona, the next day the scans show there is no injury so the next day he trains but the next day he is not comfortable and 24 hours before the game we don’t know if he plays or doesn’t play.“It is not a good feeling for him, it is not a good feeling for me.”Listen to the full talkSPORT interview with Jose Mourinho here.talkSPORT has live and exclusive national radio commentary of Chelsea v Swansea on Saturday, kick-off 17.30last_img read more
